At present, there are TV in about 21 to 22 crore families in the country, while there are more than 80 crore consumers of smartphones, which is likely to be one billion by 2026. Till now a user spends about 20 GB internet data every month. That's why the government is considering phone as the biggest platform to send TV content to more people.
She wants to send education and emergency notifications from d2M. Right now there are 800 million users on the phone, which is working as a large number.
Last June, IIT Kanpur published a white paper on D2M transmission and 5G convergence in the country. It has been said that broadcasting d2m network will be able to provide regional TV, radio, educational content, emergency alert system, disaster related information, video and data-driven apps. This app will run without internet and will have to pay less.
The challenge ahead is that mobile operators may oppose it, as the government wants multimedia content to reach millions of phones without data charges. In this, the data revenue of the operators is sure to be affected. 80% of their internet traffic comes from videos. This technology is upgraded from rest of the countries.
