While delivering his last speech in the old Parliament building, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the country's 75-year history, from Pandit Nehru to Manmohan Singh.
10 key points from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address:
1) Farewell to the old House is an emotional moment :
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that we are all now bidding farewell to this historic building. Before independence, it used to be the seat of the council and after independence, it got a new identity as the Parliament building. Although this building was built during the tenure of foreign rulers, we can proudly say that it was built with the sweat, hard work and money of the countrymen. Although we are now moving from this building to the new building, this building will continue to inspire the coming generations in the coming times. It is an important chapter in the golden journey of Indian democracy.
2) India's identity as a World Friend :
It is a matter of pride for us that the African Union has become a member of G-20 under the chairmanship of India. It is only the strength of India that all member countries reached a consensus on the Delhi Declaration during the G-20 summit and everyone signed it. It is a matter of pride and glory for all of us that India has been recognized as a world friend in the world and the whole world is looking for its friend country in India.
3) A poor child who spent on the railway platform reached the Parliament :
When I first became a member of Parliament, I bowed my head at the door of the Parliament building and stepped into this temple of democracy with reverence. It is the strength of India's democracy that a poor child who spent time on the railway platform could reach the Parliament. I never even imagined that the country would give me so much blessings and love.
4) Central Hall is like a temple for the members :
The central hall of the House is like a temple for the former members. Old members always come to the central hall of the House. The country moved forward with full strength. Even if there will be dark clouds, we will move forward with this belief. The Constitution was written in this building for 2 years 11 months and the Constituent Assembly met. Which is still guiding us, which still drives us. The biggest strength of our democracy is the unwavering faith of the people in this system and it will continue to be there.
5) Parliament lost three Prime Ministers :
When the country lost three Prime Ministers, this House was filled with tears. Despite many challenges, every speaker has run both houses smoothly and in a proper way.
6) Farewell to this House building is a very emotional moment :
Farewell to this House building is a very emotional moment. Even if a family leaves its old house and goes to a new house, many memories shake it up for a moment. In the same way, when we are leaving this House, our mind and brain are also filled with those emotions and many memories. There are many memories associated with sour-sweet moments, bickering, celebration-excitement.
7) Attack on Parliament is an attack on democracy :
While discussing the terrorist attack on Parliament, the Prime Minister paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives by eating bullets to save Parliament. The Prime Minister said, that attack was not on a building but on the mother of democracy all over the world, our soul. I can never forget that incident. Salute to those who took bullets on their chest while fighting terrorists to save the House and the members of the House.
8) Praise from Pandit Nehru to Chaudhary Charan Singh:
While discussing Pandit Nehru and his yoga, Prime Minister Modi said that this is the same house where the echo of Nehru's "Stroke of Midnight" will not allow you to sleep at night. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, who was included in Pandit Nehru's government, gave the country a water policy. Baba Saheb Ambedkar believed that industrialization was essential for the development of India. PM Modi further said that Lal Bahadur Shastri had inspired the brave soldiers of the country from this house during the 1965 war. He also laid the foundation of the Green Revolution from this house. From this house, Indira Gandhi ensured the independence of Bangladesh and also saw the emergency. From this house, Chaudhary Charan Singh formed the Rural Ministry.
9) Discussion from Atal Ji till now:
Mentioning former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PM Modi said that Atal Ji had said in this house, those words are still echoing in this house today - "Governments will come and go, parties will be formed and destroyed, but this country should remain." On this, the Lok Sabha members clapped vigorously. Discussing the Manmohan Singh government, he said that this house also saw the "cash for vote scandal". The solution to Article 370 also came from this house. GST, One Rank One Pension, 10% reservation for the poor also came from this house.
10) The country together in the Corona crisis :
He also discussed the subsidized food available in the Parliament canteen. In the Corona period, the MPs of this house cut their salaries and played a very important role in the crisis that came before the country.
