It is the ever first organized scheme run by the government launching of Electric Bus Service covering 169 cities initially.
The Cabinet chaired by honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi approves this scheme under which 10,000 (ten thousand) e buses will be deployed on Public Private Partnership model.
The scheme estimates cost is
INR 57,613 Cr.
Out of this the Central Government will contribute
INR 20,000 Cr.
The E Bus Service will operate in 169 cities throughout the country for 10 years tenure. The scheme will be applicable to such City areas where there has not been any organized bus service so far.
Cities populated 3 lakhs or above as per 2011 census report will come under coverage of the scheme.
It will too include all the cities of North-eastern India, other Hill states and UTs.
💥 One of the most notable features of this Scheme is that it will generate 45 - 55,000 direct Job opportunity.
The Scheme includes 2 segments -
Segment - 1 :
Having a focus on deploying the city bus services covering 169 Indian cities. This approved e-Bus scheme will augment the bus operations with 10k electric buses on PPP Model.
Associated unique infrastructure will be provided to support the upgradation of Depot and to create the behind- the-meter-power infrastructure for e buses.
Segment 2 :
That will function on Green Urban Mobility Initiatives in 181 cities.
The government said that the concept of the scheme includes NCMC based Automatic Fare Collection System, bus priority infrastructure, multimodal interchange facilities and so on.
Boost of E-mobility :
1) Under Green Urban Mobility initiatives, cities will be given support for the charging infrastructure development.
2) The scheme will support in promoting fuel base for behind- the-meter-power infrastructure providing e-mobility assistance.
With the support of bus priority infrastructure it will accelerate the Energy Efficiency of electric buses and will proceed to Advanced innovation in the mobility sector developing the resilient supply chain for e-vehicles.
Electric Mobility we lead reduction of air and noise pollution and minimize carbon emission near to stop.
Several Studies found that the electric buses having 25 decibels quieter outside and 24 disables quieter inside than Diesel run buses.
Advancing benefits :
E buses designed having more fuel efficiency.
It has its lower maintenance expenses approx half compared to diesel buses.
Naturally decrease the maintenance and fuel costs potentially of the Transit agencies and that's why they opt it comfortably.
It's entire design eliminates diesel exhaust emissions, particulate pollutants that form ground level ozone.
Thus it proves itself very helpful in improving the air quality in the surrounding community and experiencing clean, more refreshed environmental benefits.
Due to increasing share of bus based public transportation, Modal Shift will lead to reduce Green House Gases.
E Buses produce significantly lower GHG emissions compared to other buses powered by diesel, diesel hybrid and natural gas.
Hydrogen stored on its board offers higher energy density compared to Electric storage system (such as batteries) enabling longer ranges compared to battery stored energy systems.
Salient features :
Electric buses are plugged into the electricity grid to get charged and store it in batteries located on it's roof.
The bettery power electric engine.
E buses are mostly ecological when it's powered by electricity too from regenerative thats carbon dioxide free energy sources.
Having neither fuel tank nor engine :
E buses are installed with Electric motor that functions as the transmission and engine. and it's bettery serves as its fuel tank.
As electric engine has fewer parts it requires less maintenance and relevant costs.
Generative braking system allowing for converting heat into electricity while recharging batteries.
More profit making and revenue generative :
A Indian Institute of Science (IISc) study which evaluated electric vehicles for urban transport revealed its report that e buses generate daily basis 82% more profits and 27% more revenue than diesel buses.
Electric buses are going to be more popular in recent days as just charged once, it covers a range of aprx. 280 km.
Speed :
Charged twice a day for just one hour with a quick charger, it's average mileage is 80 kilometer per hour ( even though it's top speed upto 120 km ph).
Electric buses are driving on Lithium-Ion batteries to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
It's per kilometer cost is reasonable - approx INR 55.
A clean mode of transport that is quite cheaper and more sustainable.
DGE Efficiency :
It also takes advantage in efficiency on CNG buses having aprx 17.5 miles per DGE ( Diesel Gallon Equivalent ) as comparing to CNGs aving aprx 4.5 miles DGE only.
Himachal Pradesh is the first state of India to lunch e-bus on Rohtang Pass near Mandi.
Inauguration of India's first air conditioned double decker electric bus done on 13/02/2023 by BEST ( Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertakings).
Mumbai is the leading region with aprx 400 e-buses on ride as the latest transport statistics report.
Topmost electric bus manufacturers in India :
1) Tata Motors
2) Ashok Leyland
3) JBM Motors Ltd
4) PMI Electro Mobility
5) Olectra Green Tech Ltd.
and so on.
Future of e Buses :
Electronic buses are designed to be more safer than any other fossil fuel burning passenger vehicles type and the most regulated vehicle Superior to any on road riding diesel buses.
In 2022, the estimated Indian E Bus Market size was more than 630 million USD and it's expected growth reach upto 2030 will be more than 2,766 million USD that is 21% at CAGR.
It is very possible as Indian bus industry witnesses a significant growth in recent days and it will still to be continued.
E Buses started its Journey in several states of India in isolated form. But now it's an organized initiative that the government of India takes to gear up its mission to make a clean and green India by establishing such an instance of sustainable development by utilizing renewable energy resources minimizing environmental pollution at a larger extent.
