OMG 2 movie review:-It’s been a while since I enjoyed an Akshay Kumar performance as much as this bone. And I have n’t been taken by surprise as much as I was in OMG 2, in the stylish way possible.
OMG 2-
In the 2012 OMG, Paresh Rawal plays a snarky ‘ naastik( polytheist) ’ with similar bounce that poor Krishna Vasudev Yadav from Gokul is impelled to come down to the earth to educate the former the error of his ways. In so doing, the film disses estate and creed, while taking several lodgings at paakhandis ’ across all persuasions who prey upon the susceptible a main character addresses of, quaff, Gita, Bible and Quran in the same breath. In other words, OMG, faced by Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, bravely transferred up religious dissimulation across the board, and we all laughed our heads off indeed as the great sceptic Kanji Lal Mehta discovered religion.
I went into OMG 2 with a great deal of alarm . This is 2023, and a different India. With so important polarisation around us, would a film be suitable to look at religion, and religious numbers without getting all moralistic and moralistic, and, yes, majoritarian? The effect does the smart thing by side- stepping the tricky issue of diversity by tipping it towards such a startlingly progressive, liberal point- of- view that we forget, nearly, the absence of other faiths. And comes up with a crackling film which questions the lack of faith ignorant grown-ups repose( or rather, do not) in our youthful people as they explore the mystifications of their bodies with natural curiosity and unreservedness it isn't ‘ gandaa kaam ’ or commodity wrong, and it is n’t clearly is n’t anything to be shamed of.
It also makes a smart choice of making its supereminent character Kanti Sharan Mudgal formerly a establishment Shiva bhakt, and Pankaj Tripathi slips into that part with rehearsed ease. Kanti’s belief is tested to the bow as his adolescent son is bullied and wearied by his academy- mates and let down by his preceptors for having indulged in ‘ vulgar acts ’. The court- room, presided over by Judge Purushottam Nagar( Malhotra, hiding his grins through the proceedings) becomes Kanti’s battle- field as he defends his son, with argumentative lady counsel Kamini Maheshwari( Yami Gautam, learning her assignments well) appearing for the indicted, the academy star, and varied snake oil painting dispensers and shams.
And every time Kanti Sharan falters, Bhole Nath’s ‘ doot ’ aka runner( standing in for the lord himself, but we are n’t wisecracked, are we?) appears in all feathers of quirky guises, as a mendicant with dreadlocks, as a various buffoon zooming around in a sports auto, and so on it helps, of course, that it's Shiva, the coolest, zaniest god in the Hindu pantheon. And this time around, Akshay has indeed further fun yes, he's playing antaryami, the each- knowing, but with the kind of lightness he can display when he's not taking himself seriously. The Nandi bull, Bhole Nath’s functionary ‘ vaahan ’ appearing every time he does, is a veritably funny, apt touch. It’s been a while since I enjoyed an Akshay Kumar performance as much as this bone.
And I have n’t been taken by surprise as much as I was in OMG 2, in the stylish way possible. It took me some time to get used to the fact that this was a film which was taking its charge – talking up the vital significance of coitus education amongst academy- going children, and indeed more importantly, taking the shame down from similar conversations so seriously that it would get into oppressively explicatory mode, and stick with it. It also chooses to go all out in terms of the language used, noway pulling punches, and naming effects as they are, indeed if it's kindly
on the nose the dialogue pens have easily had a blast, making us laugh despite a many cumbrous sideswipes at Macaulay’s ‘ shiksha pranali ’, while emphasising the virtuousness of ‘ sanatan dharm ’. The pace is uneven, however, and some corridor slacken; and the use of ‘ shuddh ’ Hindi is clever it helps keep effects opaque when you can go over the heads of people originally before shocked- yet- festive understanding hits. OMG 2 also lunges for melodramatic patches and some ‘ naach- gaana ’, including an each- too brief ‘ taandav ’.
