New Interim Coach to Lead Indian Cricket Team for Ireland T20Is as Dravid and Laxman Step Aside
The Indian national cricket squad is getting ready for a fascinating period as they get ready for the T20I series against Ireland. In this upcoming tour, both Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman have opted to step away from their coaching responsibilities.
As Team India readies itself for the T20I series in Ireland, Head Coach Rahul Dravid is taking a well-earned break from his duties for this particular assignment. Traditionally, VVS Laxman has assumed the role in such circumstances; however, this time, he won't be accompanying the squad. With these two distinguished figures absent, the reins of the young Indian team will be held by former domestic cricket standout Sitanshu Kotak, the current head coach of the India A National Cricket Academy (NCA) group.
According to credible reports, VVS Laxman was initially designated as the coach for the Indian team's Ireland tour. Nevertheless, his impending commitment involves overseeing a comprehensive high-performance training camp near Bengaluru, spanning three weeks. Consequently, he won't be available for the Ireland T20Is, scheduled to kick off on August 18.
It's noteworthy that Sairaj Bahutule will also be joining Kotak as the bowling coach for the tour.
"Kotak and Sairaj Bahutule (bowling coach) will accompany Jasprit Bumrah & Co. for the three-match T20I series (from August 18-23), while Laxman will be engaged in a high-performance camp from August 16 to September 5. The BCCI has summoned promising young talents like Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Prabhsimran Singh, Sai Sudarshan, Akash Singh, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, and Divyansh Saxena," revealed an insider to the Times of India.
Though the series primarily revolves around T20Is, its significance is not lost on Team India's management. The group's solidarity is expanded by Jasprit Bumrah's return, and the series will be utilized as a feature for anticipated entertainers like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma, among others.
Backed by his two-year tenure coaching the India A team, Sitanshu is suitably equipped to mentor the squad. The Ireland visit gives him a special opportunity to intently team up with hopeful Indian players who might shape the game's future.
