💠 INDIAN'S DREAM IN STUDYING CANADA
âž¡ Every third Indian student is depressed.
Deaths have increased 5 times in 6 years, disappointment is increasing due to not getting the desired success. Young Indians going to Canada are burdened with expectations. Due to not getting work or expected job while studying there, they are becoming victims of mental illnesses like depression. Some are even embracing death in despair. According to statistics, only 8 Indians were dying prematurely in 2018. There have been 33 deaths in 2022, while 36 deaths have occurred so far in 2023. According to a funeral home, four to five Indians are dying every month this year. According to a survey conducted by Khalsa Aid on international students in Canada, three out of every 10 Indian students were found to be suffering from depression.
In fact, there are many cases in which ordinary families of the country risked their entire life's savings and sent their children to Canada. Arshdeep Verma from Patiala, Punjab is one of them. His family had deposited Rs 30 lakh and got Arshdeep admitted to Cambrian College, Ontario, Canada in 2019. Arshdeep became unable to make a living due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Couldn't ask for money from the family. Finding himself alone, he fell into depression. He committed suicide in April 2022.
âž¡ The doctor is white, he does not understand the feelings of non-English people.
Toronto psychiatrist Dr. MA Gupta says lack of access to mental health services is also a reason for the struggles of Indian students. Most mental health counselors in Canada are white, and do not understand the cultural and emotional context of Indian students. Many Indian students do not speak English well, and are unable to communicate properly with these experts. In such a situation, all colleges and universities need to appoint mental health counselors of Indian origin.
