At this time, good luck being Rahul Dravid. Today, the team's reserve hitter hit a fifty and the auxiliary pacer hit a fifer. When Rohit, Hardik, and Kohli are absent, the others step up...So, how do you choose your starting XI for the World Cup opener? Thankfully, the Indian management has two more ODIs to put these lads through their paces, while Australia will be hoping for a better performance in their next game as they worry about the fitness of some of their regulars. For now, here is Saurabh Shankar, signing out on behalf of Akshay Maanay, Anurag Hegde, and Vinod Kumar.
Player of the Match: Mohammed Shami :(On bowling longer periods in hot weather) It varies. Despite the heat and the game scenario, you feel like bowling 4-5 overs with the new ball. I liked Marsh's wicket; it's a different sensation when you get the outside edge and control your swing well. On this wicket, it was critical to strike the appropriate lengths, either at full speed or slowly, but delivering the right lengths was critical. (On bowling with the other pacers) We've been doing it for a long time, so we know what to do. I always appreciate it when we bowl well together like this.
KL Rahul: (On captaincy) It's not the first time this has happened to me. I'm accustomed to it, and I enjoy it. I thought the afternoon's intensity was fantastic. After Colombo, this felt like heaven at first, but it was really hot and humid. It's rigorous and physically demanding at times, but we've all worked on our fitness, and it shows on the field. Because we only had five bowlers, they had to bowl 10 overs. It was a little hard with the set batter out after Shubman got out. But I was able to have a strong cooperation with Surya, and I need to put myself in such difficult situations. (On our collaboration with Surya) We continued talking about playing excellent cricket strokes and rotating the strike, and this is something that all of our batters are focusing on. We didn't want to get bogged down; we were always on the same page, so we wanted to go deep.
Cummins, Pat: Personally, I'm glad to be back. It's great to have my first game in India. A few players batted well, and a few guys bowled well, but it wasn't enough. (On injuries) They would most likely not be ready for the second or third game. Maxi recently arrived in India. Davey was fantastic, as was Smith's first hit. It's great to see them out there together. We're looking ahead to the main competition, but you want to set the bar early and establish a nice routine.
Roshan Gede provided the statistics.

Suryakumar Yadav: When I first started playing this format, I dreamed of innings like this. Trying to bat deep and finish the game; sadly, I was unable to do it today, but I am really pleased with the outcome. I'd been wondering what was going on for me in this format, because the teams and bowlers were the same. I went back and thought about it, and I realized I was probably hurrying things. So I decided to play slower and go deeper. It's probably the first time I haven't played a sweep. This is from the Chandu Pandit School of Arts (on one of his straight drives). I had a great time watching the openers bat. Want to bat the same manner, bat deep, and attempt to win games for India.
21:44 LT, 16:14 GMT, and 21:44 IST: The Mohali curse has been broken, with India defeating Australia for the first time since 1996. A very straightforward chase, as the hitting improved in the second innings when the surface flattened out. Shubman Gill was as dashing as ever, capitalizing on the powerplay with some eye-catching strokeplay. Ruturaj, who took his place, was completely behind him. everything took some time to get going, but everything moved quickly. Both openers reached fifty, but Adam Zampa took three wickets in three overs, dismissing Gill and Rutu while running out Iyer. Things were a little tense at the time since Ishan Kishan was out trying to upper cut, but Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul kept the ship afloat. The former, in especially, displayed amazing discipline, limiting his aggressive impulses and playing some flawless strokes to help India close in on the win. He couldn't finish the job, but Rahul was confident on the other end, playing a captain's knock, notching up a fifty, and scoring the winning runs with 8 balls to spare. Now for the presentations...
Abbott to Rahul, 48.4 SIX completes in style.... He shown caution throughout the innings, but when he gets a slot ball on off, he hammers it over mid-off and it settles all the way beyond the ropes for a six. India triumphs by 5 wickets.
48.3Abbott to Rahul, FOUR! On off, little overpitched, chipped over mid-off for a boundary. That brings KL's total to 50. Rahul, what a gentlemanly captain's knock!
48.2 Abbott to Rahul, short outside off, sliced into the ground towards point
48.1 Abbott to Jadeja, 1 run, length ball pursuing Jadeja, pushed to mid-on, and he takes on Cam Green's arm. Survived a little scare...
IND: 270-5 at the end of 48 overs
Matthew Short to Jadeja, 47.6 47.5 Matthew Short to Rahul, 1 run, pitched high, Jadeja dives forward to smash it beyond Short towards long-on. A couple of bounces to 47.4 Rahul to Matthew Short, no run, flighted up on off, defended back to Matthew Short
47.3 Matthew Short to Jadeja, one run, flung up, and driven to long-on. Jadeja is off to a great start!
47.3 Matthew Short, wide to Jadeja, arm ball, slips down the leg side
47.2 Matthew Short to Jadeja, no run, slides on the pads, nice turn to short
47.1 Matthew Short to Rahul, 1 run, length ball, single to the left of extra cover.
