The Indian team started its ICC World Cup (ODI World Cup-2023) campaign with a match against Australia. In this match at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk), Chennai, the Australian team, batting first, was limited to just 199 runs. The Indian team had a bad start and its 3 wickets fell for only 2 runs. Later, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul performed brilliantly with the bat and led their team to victory. Rahul hit the winning six, who returned unbeaten after scoring 97 runs. Rahul hit 8 fours and 2 sixes in 115 balls. Virat Kohli hit 6 fours in his innings of 85 runs in 116 balls. Virat and Rahul made a partnership of 165 runs for the fourth wicket.

AUS team made a big mistake here
Australia's first mistake in the match happened at the time of toss. Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first. The Chennai pitch anyway looks dry and in such a situation there is a wonderful opportunity for the spinners, which was clearly visible. Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin together took 6 wickets for Australia. The second mistake happened during fielding. When Virat Kohli was playing on the score of 12 runs, his catch was dropped by Mitchell Marsh. This sacrifice of life proved costly for Australia. Not only this, Australia's bowlers did wonders with the new ball but when Rahul and Virat settled down, they could not take any wicket. Rahul and Virat together again made the team win.

Earlier, Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first. The visiting team was all out for 199 runs in 49.3 overs. Steve Smith scored the highest score of 46 runs while David Warner contributed 41 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was the most successful bowler, taking 3 wickets. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah got 2-2 wickets. Mohammad Siraj, Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin took 1-1 wicket.

India lost 3 wickets early
While chasing the target of 200 runs, India had a very bad start and its 3 wickets fell for just 2 runs. Captain Rohit and Ishan Kishan started the innings but both were out without opening the account. Mitchell Starc sent Kishan to the pavilion on the fourth ball of the first over of the innings. He became the golden duck. Then pacer Josh Hazlewood took 2 wickets in his first (second innings) over. After dismissing captain Rohit on the third ball, he showed the way to the pavilion to Shreyas Iyer (0) on the last ball.
