Home Kitchen health remedies
We often neglect our own kitchen, a hidden pharmacy for various health problems, where a treasure of herbal remedies is readily available. Several highly result-oriented and powerful herbs like turmeric, asafoetida, pepper, Ajowan, dry ginger, clove, cardamom, bay leaves, etc., are commonly found in most Indian kitchens in all states. Let's introduce some important spices and medicinal herbs for our ready reference to use in emergencies.
1) Ajowan:
Ajowan is very commonly available everywhere. It can be used for gastric problems, stomach pain, cholera, indigestion, diarrhea, etc. Prepare a decoction and consume it 2 - 3 times a day in limited quantity. If this method doesn't prove effective, it is advisable to seek the help of a qualified doctor.
2) Dry Ginger:
In the olden days, India was known to European countries through the export of spices like ginger, pepper, etc. Dry ginger has more medicinal value according to Ayurveda. It helps to control "Vata and Kapha" in our body, which leads to various health issues. It also aids in better blood circulation, gastric problems, piles, vomiting, and saliva production.
3) Fenugreek Seeds:
Fenugreek seeds are used in various curries as a flavoring spice. They also help eliminate Vata and Kapha and aid in good digestion. As per Ayurveda, they are very effective in controlling diabetes. To promote sufficient breast milk production, it's an old practice for mothers to consume fenugreek seeds (methi) mixed with rice porridge. Fenugreek seed powder can be applied to the head while bathing to promote hair growth and prevent hair fall.
4) Cardamom:
Cardamom is in high demand as an export spice. It is commonly used in Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani systems of treatment. Also, it is used as a culinary item in Indian kitchens. Cardamom contains carbohydrates, protein, fats, phosphorus, iron, etc.
For kidney stones: Make a powder of 10 cardamom pods, prepare a decoction of the entire Punarnava plant, and mix both. Consume this warm decoction on an empty stomach in the morning. Avoid food or fluids for the next 3 hours. Gradually, the calcification breaks down and comes out through urination.
For cholesterol: Put 2 teaspoons of cumin seeds in 300ml of water and heat it until it boils. Mix it with 1 teaspoon of cardamom powder. Consume it frequently while warm for 1 month to get good results.
For premature ejaculation: Take half a teaspoon of cardamom powder in a glass of warm cow's milk daily at night for a month to address this issue.
5) Black Seed (Kalonji):
In the Holy Quran, the black seed is described as a great medicinal herb available throughout the universe, stated to be a cure for all diseases except "death" itself.
Its uses: To induce sweat, remove intestinal gas, eliminate intestinal worms, and maintain proper menstruation in women.
For insomnia: Consume 10 grams of black seed powder mixed with honey at night before sleep.
Black seed oil is most beneficial for healthy hair growth for both genders.
Note: It is essential to consult a qualified healthcare professional before using these remedies, especially in severe health conditions. These tips are meant as supplementary and not as a replacement for professional medical advice and treatment.
