Amidst the India vs Bharat debate, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a big message to the world through the 18th Delhi G-20 summit.
During a meeting in the India Pavilion (Bharat Mandapam), PM Modi's table has"Bharat" written in place of "India".
With the opening of the G-20 summit, the country's name has become "Bharat" officially.
The initiative to change the country's name to "Bharat" came from President Droupadi Murmu through sending an invitation letter to foreign leaders for a dinner.
When PM Modi was on Indonesia tour,he also went as the Prime Minister of "Bharat".
This step taken by the central government sparked a controversy.
The largest opposition Congress accused the Modi government of being afraid of their INDIA alliance to change the name of the country.
The opposition also alleges that the government wants to change the name during the upcoming special Parliament session to be held at the end of September.
"Bharat" also mentioned in G-20 booklet prepared for foreign delegates.
The booklet is titled "Bharat, the mother of democracy".
It states that the country's official name is "Bharat" that has been mentioned in the constitution of India and discussions from 1946-48.
Opposition and Government clash :
The opposition launches sharp attack on the center on this issue. Members of I.N.D.I.A have alleged that the Modi government is distorting history and dividing India. BJP leaders hit back at the protesting opposition. They called them opponents of the country and the constitution. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan opines that the decision to use the word "Bharat" is a big statement against colonial mentality. And this job should have done earlier as it gives a great satisfaction that "Bharat" is our original identity.
